Daikon Radish, Miyashige White Neck
This is a white neck version of Miyashige radish, which has been one of the most popular and widely grown radishes in Japan and other areas in Asia. Daikon roots are 12-15" long and 2.5-3.5" in diameter, relatively larger than other Daikon radishes. This variety is suitable for sowing in late summer to fall and harvesting in fall to winter.

To say that I love dimsum -style fried radish cake (in Cantonese: lor bak gou ) is a serious understatement. There's something about that distinctive aroma, the mouth-watering savouriness, that firm+jiggly+melting texture of the rice flour cake that makes me automatically surrender to its irresistible charm. So much so that I was willing to part with S$1.05 for a miserable 7x6x2 cm piece from Crystal Jade bread outlets, which practically disappears in two bites. Ugh. Looking through my archives, I realized that this year, I haven't been blogging about what we're eating at home, save for two recipes. Some people might even get the impression that we eat out a lot. On the contrary, we eat home more often than out. Breakfast is a must, and our kitchen churns out dinner at least five times a week. And for me, I often have lunch at home too, before going to work.
